Short version: Wisp is local-first. There is no account and no sign-up. Your books, articles, notes, reading progress, and settings stay on your device. To understand how Wisp is used and to keep purchases working, the app sends a small amount of anonymous data to three services, described below. None of it includes your name, your email, or anything you read, and none of it is used to track you across other companies’ apps or websites.
The files you import (TXT, EPUB, PDF), the web articles you save, your bookmarks and bookmark notes, your reading position and speed, and your preferences are stored locally on your device. They are not uploaded to us or to anyone else.
Wisp uses Aptabase and Mixpanel to count how features are used: for example, that a book was imported and its file format, that read-aloud was started, or that the Pro screen was opened and which plan was chosen. These events never include book or article titles, links, text, or any personal details.
Aptabase does not use a device or user identifier. Mixpanel uses a random identifier created when the app is installed. It is not linked to your identity, and it lets us see, for example, whether people who finish onboarding go on to read. Both services receive your IP address with each request, as any internet service does, and derive an approximate country or region from it. Data is sent to their EU endpoints and kept according to each service’s own retention policy. See Aptabase’s privacy policy and Mixpanel’s privacy policy.
If you choose to buy Wisp Pro, the purchase is processed by Apple and managed through RevenueCat, our subscription provider. RevenueCat receives the purchase/subscription status tied to a randomly generated, anonymous app-user identifier so the app can unlock Pro features and restore purchases. This data is not linked to your identity and is not used to track you. We never receive your name, email, payment details, or contacts. See RevenueCat’s privacy policy and Apple’s privacy policy.
When you save an article from a link or from Safari, Wisp downloads that page directly from the website, the same way a browser would. The link is not sent to us or to any other service.
Natural voices are downloaded to your device from GitHub the first time you choose one. After that, read-aloud works entirely offline. Your text is never sent anywhere to be spoken.
If you send feedback, or send the details of a file that would not open, Wisp opens your own mail app with the message filled in. iOS also gives Wisp short reports about recent crashes or freezes: the date, the app build, the iOS version, the device model, and the crash type or how many freezes there were. They contain nothing you read or wrote. Wisp keeps these on your device and never uploads them by itself; a short summary is added to the bottom of a feedback email. You see exactly what is included and can delete any of it, and nothing is sent unless you send it.
Wisp is rated 4+ and is suitable for all ages. It does not knowingly collect any personal information from children.
Because your library lives on your device, deleting the app removes your local data, including the random analytics identifier. Analytics data is anonymous and not linked to you, so we have no way to tell which events are yours. You can manage or cancel a subscription anytime in Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions on your device.
If this policy changes, we will update this page and the “Last updated” date above.
